LEGOLAND CALIFORNIA RESORT CREATES SPECIAL THANK YOU FOR FRONTLINE WORKERS

BY GABRIELLE

Legoland California Resort has built a special Lego feature. The structure says a special thank you to those working in the frontline during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The feature boasts a white Lego background that starkly contrasts to text made from black bricks that reads ‘Thank You’. Accompanying the text is a yellow ribbon. The feature was made from 640 Lego bricks and is over three feet in length and two feet in height. The special Lego structure was made by model builder Tim Sams.

A number of Merlin Entertainments resorts, including Legoland Discovery Centres and Legoland Resorts, are sharing similar messages to show appreciation and thanks to those risking their lives by working on the frontline during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

 BY GABRIELLE

With its original opening day in early June postponed due to the ongoing global pandemic, Holiday World in Santa Clause, Indiana, is now hosting its opening day digitally.

The online opening day is taking place on Saturday May 2. The theme park’s president Matt Eckert and owner Leah Koch will be kicking off the digital fun day at 9am, which will end with a firework show at 9pm Central Time.

Throughout the day there will be entertainment videos, alongside cooking tutorials based on recipes of food served in the park. There will also be special chats with Eckert, Kock and Lauren Crosby, another owner of Holiday World.

Leah Koch commented on this unique way of opening the theme park: “We may not be able to welcome guests through our gates on May 2 as we had originally planned, but we’re going to celebrate it just the same.

“Opening day is a special day that we count down toward every year. We can’t wait until we can open our gates to guests again, but until then we’re going to celebrate and help our guests bring opening day home,” Koch added.

Expo 2020 Dubai has announced it will possibly postpone until 2021 amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Expo 2020 Dubai says it has been working closely with key UAE and international stakeholders to assess the impact of coronavirus. It says it is supportive of the Steering Committee’s proposal made on March 30, to explore the possibility of a one-year postponement.

BIE is working with Expo 2020 and member states to establishing a change in the date. The final decision can only be made by BIE’s General Assembly.

“We continue to face a global situation that is both fast moving and unpredictable,” said Expo 2020 in a statement, adding: “We remain firm in our collective aim to deliver an Expo that is true to its time and to our shared, urgent priorities. But it is clear that this is not the right time.”
