CHINA’S THEME PARKS REOPEN WITH STRICT MEASURES IN PLACE TO PREVENT THE SPREAD OF COVID-19

Since China’s fight against coronavirus started to slow down, theme parks and amusement sites across the country have started to open their doors once more.

Many of the theme parks opening to the public have strict measures in place to prevent further outbreak of the virus. Before being admitted into the park, visitors are required to have their temperature checked and to show their health QR codes and IDs.

Reservations must be made in advance and visitors must wear a mask. Certain theme parks have introduced a no cash rule and payments should be made via mobile payment to maintain a non-contact service.

Shanghai Haichang Ocean Park reopened on March 20 but closed again on March 30 because of Shanghai’s strict policy to counter the coronavirus.

A number of other of Haichang Ocean Parks are reopening, including those in the Qingdao and Yantai, Shandong province. The parks have stringent real-time monitoring in place to control the number of visitors entering the indoor and outdoor areas of the sites.

Shanghai Happy Valley reopened on March 20. During closure, the theme park carried out upgrades, including the maintaining and adjusting of equipment and giving everything a deep clean.

Members of staff have also been trained for non-contact service. Signs have been placed around the park reminding visitors to keep a distance of at least 1.5 metres from each other.

2019 CHINA THEME PARK COMPETITIVENESS INDEX REPORT RELEASED

The 2019 China Theme Park Competitiveness Index Report has been released revealing the best performing theme parks in China in 2019.

In top position was Shanghai Disneyland, which scored 75.99 points in the report. OCT East and Windows of the World ranked second and third respectively.

Also making it into the top ten performing theme parks in China during the last 12 months were Shenzhen Happy Valley, Shenzhen Splendid China Folk Village, Chimelong Happy World, Beijing Happy Valley, Shanghai Happy Valley, Wuhan Happy Valley, and Changzhou Chinese Dinosaur Park.

The Happy Valley brand occupied four of the top ten places in the report, showing the brand’s competitive edge in 2019.

The report was compiled by the China Theme Park Research Institute, the Leisure Research center of East China Normal University and Leisure and Tourism Research Center of Shanghai Normal University.

To feature in the report, the Chinese theme parks had to be large-scale resorts with total area of 600 acres or more, or with a total investment of more than 1.5 billion yuan. .

Around 92 theme parks in China met the criteria, 42 of which were included in the report.

FANTAWILD THEME PARK TO OPEN IN JINGZHOU, CHINA

The Fangtawild Oriental Heritage Park, the first Fantawild theme park in the Chinese city of Jingzhou, Hubei, is opening on September 12, 2019.

The Fangtawild Oriental Heritage Park is located in the Jinan Ecological and Cultural Tourism Zone in the city.

The park boasts a Chinese historical culture theme, focused especially on the cultures of the Jing and Chu states.

By combining innovative technology with cultural creativity and interactive entertainment features, the theme park is designed to inject new vitality into the development of tourism culture in Hubei Province.

The new Fantawild theme park has a total of 41 indoor and outdoor rides and more than 200 buildings, designed to reflect the diversity of Chinese culture.

Many of the park’s attractions reflect iconic Chinese mythologies, including the ‘Nuwa Mended the Fallen’, ‘The Cowherd and the Weaver Girl’, ‘Shenzhou Tower’, ‘Qu Yuan’, ‘Battle of Red Cliffs’, and the ‘Folk Music in Chu State’, amongst many more.
